Bree's Review:
This game is set in the San Francisco Bay Area and is played from a third-person perspective, with the open world navigated on foot or by vehicle. Players control Marcus Holloway, a hacker working to dismantle the city's sophisticated surveillance system known as ctOS, along with the hacking group DedSec. The game offers numerous hacking opportunities including manipulating traffic lights, vehicles, and steam pipes. Players can approach missions in various ways: using gadgets to stun or eliminate enemies, opting for stealth to avoid combat, or engaging in gunfire. Tools like the quadcopter and RC Jumper aid in accessing hard-to-reach places and executing strategic distractions or attacks. Marcus’s ability to hack into ctOS-connected devices with his smartphone can be used for tasks like withdrawing money or thwarting crimes. He can also customize his appearance with a range of clothing and accessories. The game is packed with a variety of main and side missions and introduces a diverse group of characters, including Sitara Dhawan, Josh Sauchak, Horatio Carlin, and "Wrench." Each character brings their unique personality and style, enriching the dynamics of the group. The story is engaging, and the gameplay is fun, enhanced by the ability to listen to music while exploring the city, a nice touch that wasn't confined to vehicles. The game’s depiction of San Francisco's scenery effectively complements its thematic tone. I particularly appreciate the varied options for completing missions, a significant improvement over the more limited choices in the first Watch Dogs.
